Initially, AIMC affiliated with Services Hospital, but after the college relocated to its current campus in 1990, it built Jinnah Hospital as a dedicated teaching hospital.

The hospital began operations in 1994 with the opening of the outpatient department (OPD). Soon after, the departments of Radiology, Radiotherapy, and Pathology were established. AIMC Mission

AIMC aims to serve the community by providing graduates with professional, practical, and research-driven knowledge and skills. We foster a culture of merit that emphasizes the development of professional and ethical values, preparing our graduates to be future leaders who contribute meaningfully to society.

In the mid-1970s, the government’s initiative to create new centers for advancing medical education and research in Pakistan resulted in the founding of this institution, Lahore Medical College, on May 2, 1975.

Prof. Dr. Akhtar Hussain Awan served as the first principal, while Dr. Muhammad Afzal Sheikh became the first professor of Anatomy. Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ali Malik and Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghaffar were instrumental in establishing the Physiology department. Dr. Sanaullah was the first administrative officer, leading a capable team.

On August 12, 1975, a group of 313 students embarked on their first academic day. Two years later, the college was renamed Allama Iqbal Medical College in honor of the centenary celebrations of the renowned philosopher.

The college initially occupied a temporary, inadequate building at the Post-Graduate Medical Institute, with limited audiovisual teaching resources. The cramped space forced the college to schedule two shifts of lectures and practical classes to accommodate all the students.

In 1980, authorities approved the final plan for the Allama Iqbal Medical College Complex and laid the foundation stone in March of that year. With a budget of 670 million rupees—370 million allocated for the building and 300 million for equipment—construction of the campus commenced.

On May 18, 1989, then-President Ghulam Ishaq Khan officially inaugurated the college complex. Construction of the 1,100-bed Jinnah Hospital began in 1988. Initially, AIMC partnered with Services Hospital, but after relocating to its current campus in 1990, the college built Jinnah Hospital as a dedicated teaching hospital.

The hospital began operations in 1994 with the opening of the OPD. The college quickly made the departments of Radiology, Radiotherapy, and Pathology operational. It opened the Emergency and Casualty Department to the public on March 23, 1995, and launched the Diabetes Clinic on May 28, 1995.
